This past July 11-13, the Patriarchal Estate in Pine Bush, NY, blossomed once again with daisies, laughter, and the vibrant energy of our community. Our beloved tradition of “Ромашковое поле” (Chamomile Meadow) brought together families, children, young adults, and friends from across the US, all eager to celebrate Family, Love, and Fidelity Day.
A Weekend of Warmth, Play, and Tradition
The program officially kicked off on Saturday, July 12, with the Divine Liturgy at 10:00 AM, attended by many with hearts full of devotion. By noon, everyone pitched in to help prepare the picnic area—a wonderful mix of cooperation, laughter, and shared effort that set the tone for the day. At 1:00 PM, the Chamomile Meadow opened, and the festivities truly began!
The picnic spread was abundant, delicious, and heartwarming. Children spent the day splashing in sprinklers, decorating faces, enjoying art activities, and exploring every corner of the field. For adults, there were sports, mini-Olympic games, brain-teasing and fun contests, dances, trivia, and plenty of traditional Russian games and amusements.
Families of Русская молодежь Нью-Йорка (Orthodox Youth of New York) were celebrated, volunteers recognized, and gifts given to all. Everyone was invited to participate in the Talent Show, while the stage came alive with music and dance performances by the Terek and Don Cossacks, alongside DJ Rafael spinning tunes. And yes—a vibrant fair and lottery added an extra layer of excitement to the day. As evening fell, a cozy bonfire and guitars closed the day in true communal style.
For those arriving earlier on Friday, July 11, the estate was already buzzing: cars rolled in, tents were pitched, children and pets explored, and the air was filled with anticipation. Marina Ivannikova, our tireless MC from the FB group, shared:
“Why all the fuss? It’s simple! Pine Bush bloomed again with the chamomiles of love. Families, friends, young and old, helpers and enthusiasts arrived early to prepare. Saturday was the big day!”
Indeed, this year’s event coincided beautifully with the feast of Saints Peter and Fevronia, celebrated on July 8, bringing the spirit of devotion and family unity to our gathering.

Honoring Saints Peter and Fevronia: A Blessing for Families
By the blessing of Abbot Nikodim, the Church of All Saints of Russia welcomed a special icon containing relics of Saints Peter and Fevronia, whose lives are celebrated across Russia as the ultimate example of faith, loyalty, and devotion within family life. Revered for their steadfast love and dedication to one another, Saints Peter and Fevronia are considered a symbol of the traditional family in Orthodox Christianity, embodying the values of mutual respect, enduring commitment, and spiritual unity. Their story serves as the spiritual foundation for Family Day, reminding us of the importance of honoring and nurturing family bonds.
The arrival of the icon offered a deeply moving moment for all attendees, young and old alike. Families gathered in prayer, pausing to reflect on the virtues embodied by the saints, and many lit candles in honor of their guidance. It was a perfect spiritual grounding for the day, linking the joyful celebrations of the picnic with the timeless Orthodox ideals of love, fidelity, and family devotion.
After the liturgy, everyone moved to the picnic area to enjoy an incredible array of food, fun, and surprises.
Special Guests and Surprises
And then, of course, the day’s heroes for the little ones stole the show! Cheburashka, the beloved Russian mascot, made his surprise debut at the Chamomile Meadow, thrilling children and adults alike with his playful antics. His appearance was a highlight of the Day of Family, Love, and Fidelity, evoking laughter, excitement, and unforgettable memories. Marina recalled:
“He sat, looked around, then leapt from the table to the chair… and back to the floor! Cheburashka simply couldn’t sit still, and the joy he brought was contagious. His debut at Romashkovoe Pole was unforgettable!”
Adding to the fun, Andre Yanson, a talented circus artist and parishioner, volunteered his show for the children. From juggling to clowning tricks and interactive antics, Andre captivated the young audience, keeping them engaged and delighted throughout the afternoon. Together, Cheburashka and Andre created a magical experience, turning the kids’ area into a lively hub of laughter, cheer, and pure joy. Learn more about Andre’s performances at yansonshow.com.
Children, families, youth from across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Florida, Maine, and Connecticut, as well as clergy, students, historians, and friends—all shared in the magic. Our youngest attendees included beloved pets like Dusya, Winnie, and a small dog resembling a sausage (the mascot of the weekend). Everyone left with smiles, laughter, and memories to cherish.
Community, Tradition, and Connection
“Romashkovoe Pole” is more than a picnic; it is a living testament to the joy of community, the richness of Russian Orthodox tradition, and the simple happiness of coming together. Generations mingle here: children grow up in the warmth of faith and friendship, young adults discover leadership, and everyone feels part of a caring, vibrant family.
Tickets for the event were sold via Eventbrite, and although the event has passed, the memories—and photos you see here—bring it vividly back to life.
A Note of Gratitude
We extend special thanks to Father Artemiy, to Marina Ivannikova and the team from Orthodox Youth of New York, and to all volunteers who made this weekend possible. Their dedication, warmth, and careful planning are what make our gatherings not only organized but genuinely heartfelt.
